A Message From Alan
"Hello everyone!
First and foremost I am hoping this finds you well. I wanted to make a short announcement in regards to the future of my art classes. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and changes in my life, I am no longer offering art classes and do not plan to return to teaching.
I wanted to take a moment and sincerely thank everyone who has been a part of the classes over the years. They were a wonderful experience and I wish all of my students the best. Thank you again for so many wonderful memories.
Your teacher and friend,
Alan."

Connect 20/21: Bridging
“Bridging is a reflection on how much the current political moment of the global pandemic has transformed our physical, psychological and economic lives.
Covid-19 led artists to adopt new ways of working in isolation to continue making art. Each experience of isolation for The Artist Critique Group is unique, and they express their creativity during the pandemic in their own way.
Bridging brings works from the Artist Critique Group that explore materiality in contemporary art practice. The exhibition includes local artists with diverse backgrounds. Through painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, and collage, the artworks challenge the way we perceive material and what material represents.
The Artist Critique Group investigates the process of making, the qualities of their chosen materials, and how these attributes are interpreted and understood through social, political, cultural and economic narratives.”

Coins for The Canadian Mint:
This is a 99.99% pure gold coin produced by the Canadian Mint that features my design and artwork. On the coin you can see an Algonquin hunter returning to his winter camp with a rabbit and an otter. I am very pleased with the final version of the coin and it is an honour to have my artwork on a piece of Canadian history. It was released in January 2018 and has since sold out. This is the second gold coin that I have worked on for the Royal Canadian Mint. It was released this past January and, like my first coin, is made of 99.99% pure gold. On the coin you can see a Mi’kmaq trading party paddling to meet a Portuguese ship caught in a summer storm off the coast of present-day Nova Scotia. Coin image © 2019 Royal Canadian Mint. I was thrilled to be a part of honouring the D-Day veterans and to be chosen to do the artwork for a coin that celebrates the 75th anniversary of the landings at Juno Beach. If you want to learn more about the coin and my process of creating the artwork, check out the radio interview I did with CBC as well as the print interviews with CBC and The Record. Keep an eye out for the green and red coloured version as well. Coin image © 2019 Royal Canadian Mint. All rights reserved.
